These days countless voices and opinions bombard us all the time. However, as followers of Christ, it is crucial to be intentional in choosing who you listen to. The influence of others can greatly impact your faith journey. Matthew 18:6 issues a warning for anyone who leads astray one of God’s beloved children. It emphasizes the severe consequences for such actions.

“But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Matthew 18:6, New Living Translation

This verse highlights the need to guard our hearts and minds, seeking divine wisdom to navigate relationships, especially in today’s world filled with media and information overload.

God expects us to have pure hearts, and like King Solomon’s request for wisdom to discern between good and evil, we must rely on God’s guidance to trust others. This passage emphasizes the harmful impact of leading someone into sin and the powerful role words play in shaping our thoughts and actions, both positively and negatively.

The power of spoken words, whether constructive or destructive, is emphasized alongside the transformative impact of meditating on God’s Word and fostering positive thinking patterns. It is crucial to be mindful of the influences we allow into our lives. As 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, we can always seek God’s help in times of temptation.

In the face of negative influences, the assurance of God’s presence as a source of strength and guidance is comforting. The text warns against giving in to peer pressure or following the crowd when it conflicts with God’s principles, emphasizing the importance of staying true to one’s faith even in challenging circumstances.

The Apostle Paul reinforces God’s faithfulness, wisdom, and protection over His children, urging them to resist external pressures that may lead them astray. He reminds us of God’s unwavering support and the need to prioritize obedience to Him above all else, despite external temptations or societal influences.

Dear Lord, please give me the wisdom to shut out anything that’s not good for me. Guide me into safe and healthy relationships with people who will encourage me with loving kindness. Protect me from the hurtful words and plans of others that would seek to ensnare me in their sin. Thank You for the ability to hear Your voice guiding me into Your loving arms of grace. Amen
