Consider the trustworthy people in your life—those you can confide in without fear of judgment, even when sharing your deepest secrets. The Apostle Paul in Ephesians describes the essence of a trustworthy person. These individuals show humility, gentleness, and patience, striving to leave bitterness and grow bonds of peace.
“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Ephesians 4:2-3, English Standard Version
In contrast, the world often lacks humility and gentleness, leading to seeing others as threats, resulting in jealousy, bitterness, and anger. But there’s an alternative. You can leave bitterness and embrace a life filled with peace.
Satan, the accuser, aims to convince you that you are unloved. However, God’s love for humanity is unwavering and immense. Jesus sacrificed His life so we can be with Him. Believe in the reality of God’s love for you. Imagine the profound impact living by these principles from Ephesians can have on your life and those around you. Embracing these virtues through the Holy Spirit leads to a life filled with Christ-like love and unity.
The remaining verses in Ephesians chapter 4 highlight that such a life is achievable only through the Spirit of Christ. The more we rely on the Spirit, the closer we’ll get to true unity and love.
Visualize a garden nourished by a river. Initially, the water seems to bring life, but a closer look reveals its toxic, discolored state, causing the plants to perish. Suddenly, the water drains away and pure rain replaces it, reviving the garden. Similarly, what if all sources of bitterness, pride, and pain were washed away? What if your heart was filled only with the pure, life-giving power of the Spirit? Remember which stream brings life.
Lord, thank You that in a world where I often feel alone, You have made me part of Your family. Thank You for the new life I have through Your Spirit. Help me to refuse to settle for less than the joy of life in You. When the world gets darker, may Your love in me shine even brighter, drawing others to know You. Amen.
