How do you react when you’re offended? Nearly every day we encounter moments that test our patience and challenge our ability to remain steadfast in love and faith. But Ecclesiastes 10:4 offers valuable insight:
Ecclesiastes 10:4 says:
“If the temper of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your post [showing resistance], because composure and calmness prevent great offenses.”
Ecclesiastes 10:4, AMP
Remember, you may not always control the actions of others, but you can choose to respond with peace and understanding.
Let’s face it, every single person who has ever been on the planet earth has been offended. Not once, but in all honesty many times and in some cases, many, many times. Some of us may view an offense as being minor and nothing to worry about. At other times someone may so offend us that we carry resentment against them for the rest of our lives.
In an era marked by quick judgments and the prevalence of “Cancel Culture,” where individuals are often too ready to dismiss those they disagree with, this message is particularly poignant. It underscores the universal experience of being offended but encourages us to seek a path of humility and gentleness, especially toward those who have hurt us.
Instead of reacting hastily or with resentment, God calls us to turn to Him for guidance. Ask Him to show us how to embody love even in challenging circumstances.
Dear Jesus Speak to me and show me how to walk in love. Show me how to be quick to love someone rather than hate them. Lord, I ask that the next time I face the option of taking offense or remaining calm and composed, I would hear Your voice speak to me. Give me wisdom and show me exactly how I am supposed to face these very tough situations. Give me the words to say so that I can obey your word and walk in love and forgiveness. Lord, I trust you in every part of my life and I thank you that whatever Satan means for evil You will use it for good. In Your powerful name I pray, Amen.
