Happy Mother’s Day!

Being a mom can be really tough. It’s exhausting, yet exciting at the same time. It’s emotional and messy, but also quite possibly the most rewarding job on the planet. While we may not all understand what it’s like to be a mom, we were all brought into this world by our mothers—and that’s something to celebrate! Mom’s are the ones who knew you first and, ideally, love you absolutely. It might seem impossible on some days to be the mom God called you to be.

The calling is tough. Moms sacrifice, teach, and shape their children—steering them in the right direction and letting go when they’re ready. As a parent, it can be easy to get bogged down by the little things—the day-to-day frustrations and valleys of parenting—that distract from God’s ultimate plan. Fortunately, God has a higher purpose for every mother, every family, and all of his children. In these Abide meditations, we’ll take you step-by-step through meditations designed to help you become the mom (or dad) God has called you to be for your family.

1. In God’s Image

Men and women are both created in God’s image and called to be fruitful together—bringing flourishing and wholeness to the entire Earth. As you click play on the 2-minute version of this meditation, focus on God’s good gifts of family and fruitfulness. Bring your worries, fears, frustrations, and joys of parenting to this meditation, laying them all out before God. Allow God’s comforting words to sink into you—letting your breath grow deep and even, as we meditate together with Abide narrator Bonnie Curry on what it means to be created in God’s image.

2. Homes of Peace and Healing

Is your home a place of peace and healing, or a place of strife? Take a moment to center yourself—breathing deeply and pushing away all distractions. As you listen to the 2-minute version of this Abide meditation, with narrator Bonnie Curry, be reminded of God’s grace—promising to bring wholeness and fulfillment to humanity. Release your attempts to earn God’s love with every exhale, and inhale his promise of blessing as you let it nourish your heart. Our homes can only be places of hope and healing if we let Jesus in.

3. A Family with Purpose

Take a moment to pause and pray for each member of your family. God has a purpose for each of them. Whether it’s your family of origin, your spouse and children, or the people you’ve adopted as family, God has a purpose for your community. Click play and listen to God’s message of salvation to you and your family in the 2-minute version of this meditation with Abide narrator Tyler Boss. While it may feel overwhelming to think about your family’s purpose, take time to stop and talk to God about how you’re feeling. God always gives you what you need to do what he’s calling you to do. The same goes for your family.

4. Blessings for Generations

Your obedience to God can bring blessings for generations. As you follow along with this guided meditation, think about the everlasting, steadfast love of the Lord. Breathe in the wonder of God’s faithfulness; from generation to generation, God’s love endures. Think about your hopes for your family and future generations – bringing those hopes to God.

Whether you are a mom, you have a great relationship with your mom, you’ve lost touch in recent years, or your mom has passed on to God’s eternal care, take time to pause today. Think about your own relationships as you listen to these meditations—whether as a mom or with your mom or even just with your family in general. After all, we are all God’s children.

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

– 3 John 1:4
