Have you ever felt abandoned and forgotten by God?
You aren’t alone. You have quite a lot in common with the early Israelites! Around 700 BC the prophet Isaiah was speaking to the Israelites in captivity. They probably believed in the LORD but had all but given up hope because they were overwhelmed by captivity. Had they been forgotten by God?
Isaiah 40:28 says:
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.”
Isaiah 40:28, English Standard Version
How does the promise of this verse speak to your heart?
When all hope seems lost, it’s essential to remember that God’s presence and power do not change with our circumstances. He is the everlasting God, the Creator of all, who does not grow weary. His plans for us are perfect, even when they’re beyond our understanding. The reassurance that comes from knowing He holds the future can bring peace even in turmoil.
In moments of despair, where do you turn? Looking to the Scriptures, we find endless sources of hope and reassurance. Isaiah reminds us of God’s unfathomable strength and wisdom. But it doesn’t stop there. The New Testament reiterates and expands upon this theme.
Paul, in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 emphasizes that our faith should not rest on human wisdom but on the power of God. In Romans 11:33-34 and 1 Corinthians 2:16, Paul marvels at the depth of God’s wisdom and knowledge. The Spirit of God reveals to us what we need to know, reminding us that we can always seek divine wisdom in times of uncertainty.
The message across these Scriptures is clear: Hold on to hope. The same God who spoke through Isaiah and inspired Paul offers us hope today. No matter how forgotten or forsaken we may feel, God has not abandoned us. He is the Creator and Preserver of all things, steadfast and unfailing.
Dear Lord God, as you spoke a message of hope to your people through your prophet, let me feel that same hope now. A reminder that you are the Creator and the Preserver of all things. You will not forsake or forget what you have made. You do not grow tired like I do. No problems are hidden from you, or too much for you to handle. You are incomprehensible. Your ways are right, even though I do not know them or understand them sometimes. I will never understand You completely, but you know me completely. I love that! Give me your hope as I bathe in this truth and promise today, in Your Holy Name, Amen.
