In the pursuit of following Jesus, remember that you are never alone. The book of Hebrews narrates the stories of faithful individuals like Noah, Abraham, and Joseph who relentlessly pursued God. They realized when it came down to it, it was game on in their faith.

We learn in Hebrews 12:1-2:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. “

Hebrews 12:1-2, New Living Translation

This passage serves as a call to let go of sin. It emphasizes how Jesus’ sacrifice cleanses us and how God always sticks to His promises. It’s like a call to arms for believers, urging them to let go of anything holding them back, keep their eyes fixed on Jesus who leads the way in our faith journey, and push through life’s hurdles with determination.

Imagine you’re in the middle of a tough marathon, where fatigue sets in, and doubts start to creep up. But there are other runners with you, representing the support system that surrounds you. They cheer you on, offering sustenance and encouragement, demonstrating how the faith community uplifts one another toward the ultimate goal.

Even though the finish line seems far away, knowing the joy that awaits those who persevere drives us forward. The thought of experiencing profound happiness post-race keeps us motivated, reminding us that God’s presence helps us find joy even in tough times. Just like runners support and draw strength from each other, we can lean on our spiritual friends and, ultimately, on God, who gives us endurance and hope.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for calling me to follow You. Thank You for all the people who have helped create the path that I run on now, as I pursue You. Thank You most of all for Your Son, Jesus, who endured the Cross and brought salvation—who brought me on to the team and is teaching me how to run with endurance. It’s in His name I pray: Amen.
