I’ve wanted a lot of things in my life: a Ferrari, to be rich and famous, to write the great American novel. Have any of those dreams come true? No. At least not yet! But Matthew 6:21 reminds me of a great truth: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” My dreams didn’t have anything to do with treasuring and honoring God; only about what I wanted at the moment.
Pray this morning prayer about honoring God with me.
Heavenly Father,
You are so, so good. You want abundant life for me. Your Word says that wherever my heart is, that’s where I’ll invest my treasure. I want my heart to be with you.
You promise over and over again to give me what I need. Above everything else I could ask for, I need your presence in my life. And I know that through your Holy Spirit, I have you with me every second of every day.
So help me know what it looks like to honor you, to invest in things that are eternal, to seek first your kingdom and your righteousness, because I know that all I need will follow.
Please guide me throughout this day, so that everything I do might bring glory to your name. Help me to see opportunities to serve others in love, and to be a shining example of your grace and mercy.
Thank you for your never-ending love, for always being faithful and for giving me a fresh start each and every morning. I pray that as I go about my day, my thoughts, words, and actions will reflect your goodness.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
